A Little Perspective Please
Are we that short sighted?
On August 6, 1945, The United States of America dropped “Little Boy,” the world’s first atomic bomb ever used in war, on Hiroshima, Japan killing between 90,000 and 166,000 people. Three days later, on August 9, 1945, “Fat Man,” the second, and last (to this point), atomic bomb ever used in war, was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan killing between 60,000 and 80,000 people. So, it is estimated that on the high end those two bombs killed 246,000 people. That is a lot of people, and because of the horror of that no other nuclear bomb has ever been used against an enemy though thousands of warheads that are vastly more powerful than those two bombs exist.
Now consider the words of Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Gharibabadi who says the Strait is “part of Iran's national security and is a defensive capability for Iran. It is the new nuclear weapon for us.”
Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz has effectively shut down all shipping in and out of the Persian Gulf. That means that a significant amount of oil is not getting out. LNG is not getting out. Fertilizer is not getting out. Helium is not getting out. Most of the news you will read focuses heavily on oil not getting out of the Persian Gulf. That is big, but the fertilizer is potentially a bigger problem. Much of the northern hemisphere was lacking fertilizer for the spring planting season which means that the harvest of those crops, the ones that were actually able to be planted, will be severely diminished. If this closure continues, the same thing will happen when it is time for spring planting in the southern hemisphere, which is soon. This means that millions of people will die of starvation in the not-too-distant future that did not have to if the Strait was open and fertilizer was being shipped to farmers around the world.
How do they shut down the Strait? Through extortion. The definition of “extortion” is the practice of obtaining something, especially money, through force or threats. They are extortionists. They are criminals. There is no danger in the Strait except for the Iranians! Pay them or they shoot you. Extortion!
The Iranians shut down the Strait of Hormuz through Extortion. Through their proxies, the Houthis, they are also shutting down the Bab Al Mandeb Strait to Saudi Arabian shipping which is putting further constrains on world oil supplies. Without fertilizer it is impossible to grow enough crops to feed everyone on planet Earth. Without oil refined to diesel, it is impossible to run tractors to plow, plant, and harvest crops, even with fertilizer. The diminished quantity of food that is able to be produced will be very expensive. Many will die because food is just not available. Many more will die because the food produced will be too expensive.
We have photos of the aftermath of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We can see the mushroom clouds, the leveled cities, the burned people, some just turned to dust. Because we can see that, we are justifiably horrified by it. That was about a quarter of a million people dead. The Iranians have already killed millions that just aren’t dead quite yet. But, because there is no mushroom cloud over the soon to be deceased, their cities aren’t leveled, the fact that it will play out over months or years, not in the instant of an atomic bomb blast, we can easily ignore it as long as it is not us or our families starving to death.
The Iranians, according to their Foreign Minister, says the Strait “is the new nuclear weapon for us.” They have already detonated their “nuclear weapon.” The death toll will be astronomical, millions, possibly billions. A very high death toll is already inevitable; it will continue to grow the longer the two Straits stay closed as explained above.
America has over 3,700 nuclear weapons. They are worthless in that we refuse to use them. Our refusal is actually a curse from Yehovah. Consider the curse Yehovah promised when we are disobedient in Leviticus 26:16:
And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass
We have power that we refuse to use. He has broken the pride of our power, and we will suffer the consequences. We have the power to flatten the entire country of Iran and kill it’s ninety million citizens. That death toll may actually end up significantly lower than the one Iran is inflicting on the rest of the world with what they have already “detonated.” But those would be “visible victims,” and we just can’t have that.
